UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

The PURPOSE of the organized units of United Methodist Women in every local church is: to be a community of women whose goal is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the local, state, and global ministries of the church.

Opportunities are available at FUMC to participate in our local unit of UMW in the following ways:
1. Active UMW Member – participate in one or more small groups of ladies called “circles.” These small groups (circles) meet once a month, either at the church or in individual homes.
2. Inactive UMW Member – join our “members at large” roster. Our members retain full status as UMW members but participate as actively as they choose.

There are also approximately six General Meetings per year when we all get together and have a program designed with the purpose of UMW in mind which meet the requirements of Christian social responsibilities, mission studies and spiritual growth. We periodically have fundraisers during the year. The proceeds from these are sent directly to missions locally, in the state and globally. We have fun and fellowship and would like to encourage all women to join us at any time.

Please feel free to join us at any time for any of our events. If you would be interested in joining UMW please contact the church office for more information, 424-7771, any UMW member, or call Mary Thomas, 797-9602.

In order to enhance the ways United Methodist Women members can communicate with each other go to the United Methodist Women’s Online Community: www.umwonline.org and register. Using the Online Community gives you the opportunity to share the love of Christ and the united Methodist tradition in new and creative ways.

During 2012 our Mission focus will be “Honor the Past, Nurture the Future.” In order to satisfy the requirements of the national organization of the United Methodist Women, this year we will be involved in the following Mission Studies:
“For the Love of God: John’s Letters” – Spirtual Growth
“Haiti, Challenges and Hopes” – Foreign Mission Studies
“The Journey of Forgiveness, Restorative Justice and Reconciliation” – Social Action Study
