The Prayer Ministry provides an opportunity to transform our congregation and our community through prayer, education, and encouragement.
 
It is a source for experiencing God through intercession, personal prayer time, vigils, classes, and special events.

Prayer ministry areas of volunteer
Pray At Home – Volunteers agree to pray in their home for general needs of the church. The person receives information in the mail every other month that includes specific prayer needs for FUMC, lessons in prayer, and inspiration.

Small Group Prayer – we have specialty prayer groups that meet on regular schedules to pray together for world issues, community needs, healing, and for the church staff and clergy. We also have a group that gathers to knit and pray. New prayer groups are encouraged to form as the members of our congregation feel the need and calling. Some of these include
• Wednesday Prayer group at 11:30 a.m. in Dilworth Chapel.
• Community Prayer at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dilworth Chapel.
• “Novice Knitters” knit and pray on Monday, 12 noon in the Courtyard Kitchen.
 
Special Prayer Events – Work with a team or committee to coordinate events such as National Day of Prayer, “Pray That”… praying for the cure for cancer,  special classes, and prayer breakfasts and luncheons.

Prayer Room or Hedge Ministry Volunteer – The Prayer Room ministry consists of intercessory prayer for specific prayer requests that are submitted to the church.  Volunteers schedule a time and day to be in the prayer room, usually for an hour each week. This prayer time can be spent alone or with a friend or two. Volunteers also send notes of encouragement to people on the prayer list if requested. The Hedge ministry consists of volunteering on Sunday mornings to pray from the prayer room during the worship services for all aspects of the service. The service can be viewed on closed-circuit television.  This time may be spent alone or as a small group.

Prayer Shawl Ministry – Volunteers knit or crochet prayer shawls to be given to those who are ill or are in special circumstances. Yarn, needles, and lessons are provided. The “Novice Knitters” meet weekly on Mondays at noon in the Courtyard Kitchen to pray and knit. They also knit items such as scarves and hats for the needy.
