![]() Senior Adults
Senior Adult Ministries focuses on those who are 60 and older to provide fellowship, fun, recreation, educational and serving opportunities, some of which are listed below. Nursing Home/Home Bound Ministry This ministry involves visitation to our members who are unable to attend programs at church. Once a month, a visitor goes to see the patient and takes a love gift from the church. Our Guardian Angels program pairs caring volunteers with senior adults from our church who are home bound or in a nursing home to help them celebrate special days and the provide the love of extended family. Trips Various one-day and some over-night trips are planned for the senior adults. These trips are publicized in the Columns newsletter and will be put on the calendar at this website. Click on the Calendar of Events link on the Home Page to view upcoming trips. Defensive Driving The AARP Defensive Driving Course is offered twice a year (watch the church calendar for dates). This course helps defray the cost of your car insurance and is good for two to three years. Cost is $10 and reservations are made by calling Carl Rhoads at 424-7771. Ceramics A ceramics class meets each Thursday on the roof of the Hunter Building to create, paint and learn the beauty and joy of ceramics. There are many people who participate from other church homes and we welcome that. All are invited....no previous experince required. Communion Ministers Take communion to homes or Nursing Homes once a month
Helping Hands Ministry
Offers assistance with minor home repairs that seniors are unable to do on their own. PAWS Ministry This ministry takes family pets to the visit the homebound and nursing home members to brighten their day. PAWS stands for Pets are Working Saints....very appropriate for these cherished animals. The members of this ministry usually take their pets to visit an assigned group of people once a month. Treasures Luncheon The second Thursday of each month our senior adults meet for a wonderful home-cooked meal, a speaker or some other entertainment from the community, and wonderful fellowship. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 424-7771. We begin at noon and finish about 1:30. Click on the Calendar of Events link on the Home Page to see news about upcoming luncheons. Hospital Visitation Volunteers in this ministry are asked to take one or two days a month and visit the members of our congregation that are in the hospital. We have a short training for all volunteers and then set them up with their own day of responsibility. These volunteers should be compassionate and good listeners. If you are interested in participating in any of these events or ministries, please contact Dr. Carl Rhoads at crhoads@fumcshreveport.org or you can call him at 424-7771.
