The mission of the Women’s Ministry at First United Methodist Church is to glorify God by enriching the lives of women of all ages through fellowship with other Christian women while nurturing their relationship with God and encouraging them to use their spiritual gifts and talents in our community.
![]() The Women's Ministry at First United Methodist Church is dedicated to meeting the needs of women of all ages – both spiritually and physically. With open arms and loving spirits we are growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord together! Join us as we laugh, cry, study the Bible, and bond together. This is a way to connect with other women, going through life as friends, mentors and accountability partners while growing as Christian women! We offer fun events, special interest groups and opportunities to grow in your faith. We are excited about this year and want you to feel welcome, invited, and energized at our events! It is the hope of the Women’s Ministry Team that you can join us for loads of fun, laughter and bonding!
![]() Heart Whisperers (prayers)Women’s Ministry is grounded in prayer. We recognize the importance of prayer and continually pray for God’s guidance in this ministry. Heart Whisperers pray specifically for the women’s ministry, the events, and the women of our church. We also have volunteers pray during each event for the women in attendance. If you would like to receive a monthly prayer guide, contact Stephanie Clark at 424-7771.
Fireflies (mentors)![]() Fireflies is our women's mentoring program based on Matthew 5:16 "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." This program is open and available to adult women of all ages. The idea is to share and learn from experiences through friendship with other women. Over 6 months, mentor and mentee meet at least monthly at times that are convenient to them. For more information, click here or contact the church office. Events

Missions and OutreachUnited Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. UMW Circles meet monthly at various locations throughout the week. Contact the church office for a schedule.
Locally, we provide baskets of necessities to the women living at the YWCA and Canaan Village Apartments. We also team up with the children's teams to provide snacks and inspirational items for the family waiting room at the Sutton Children's hospital.
Globally, we provide baskets of necessities and teacher supplies for the teachers and caregivers at the Bighouse Orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti.
UMW General Meeting - September 7 at 9:45 a.m. in Hunter 101 The Amazing Collection: the Bible for women, book by book
You may know a lot about some “pieces” of the Bible. You’ve heard the stories over and over or you’ve studied certain books or topics within it. OR you may have a little knowledge of the Bible, but have no idea how it could be relevant to your life today. OR you may have never even opened a Bible and know nothing about it. Now see how all of God’s Word fits together… See the Big picture.
FUMC Shreveport is proud to offer The Amazing Collection, beginning September 13, 2010! Why use The Amazing Collection? The Bible is a library of 66 books, each book building on the previous ones; it is truly an amazing collection. The Amazing Collection is a unique Bible study, because you will work through the entire Bible from beginning to end, book by book.
It is a creative study that is interesting, informative, and developed for women from all walks of life and levels of spiritual maturity in mind. As you study you will learn the purpose, theme, history and spiritual application of each book of the Bible. How will the Amazing Collection help you? · It will cause you to know and understand the big picture of God’s Word. · It will acquaint you with the entire Word of God, not just bits and pieces. · It will make every other Bible study you do more meaningful. · It will give you confidence in the truth of God’s Word so you won’t be deceived. · It will open your eyes to God’s work through history and in your life. · It will lay a spiritual foundation that will benefit you for life. · It will equip you to share your faith simply by turning on a DVD and taking part in a discussion of homework. The goal of Bible study is to grow in the knowledge of God through His Word. God has chosen to reveal Himself to us in a very special way that can only be found in the pages of the bible. We are excited about this study and look forward to the amazing and eternal rewards that will come from time spent in His Word. Our hope is that you will learn for the life the purpose of every book in God’s amazing Word! Let’s Get Started! Register now for Fall 2010! Classes will be offered Mondays at 10am and 6pm to best fit your busy schedule. The preschool companion, The Amazing Adventure, will be offered at 10am for your children ages 2-5.
